The Seychelles, a heavenly archipelago in the heart of the Indian Ocean, attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. To access these unspoilt islands and enjoy an unforgettable experience, you need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).
What is ETA?
The ETA is an official document issued by the Seychelles authorities allowing foreign visitors to enter the country legally. ETA applications can be made online and are generally processed quickly. It is essential to be familiar with the conditions of issue and the period of validity of this authorisation before you leave.
Eligibility for ETA
To be eligible for the ETA, you must meet certain conditions. Firstly, you must have a passport valid for the duration of your stay in Seychelles. You must also have a return ticket and a confirmed reservation for accommodation in the archipelago.
You may be asked to provide details of your personal finances to cover the costs of your stay in Seychelles. It is advisable to take out travel insurance to cover the cost of hospitalisation and/or repatriation, depending on the policy chosen.
Period of validity of the ETA in Seychelles
An essential point to know when planning a trip to the Seychelles concerns the period of validity of the electronic authorisation. The period of validity of the Seychelles ETA depends on a number of criteria, which we will discuss below.
Date of issue of ETA
The ETA takes effect from the date of issue by the competent authorities of Seychelles. It is therefore important to check this information, which generally appears on the official document once your online application has been validated. This day marks the start of the period of validity that will give you access to the islands.
Authorised length of stay
The maximum length of stay authorised in Seychelles with an ETA is 90 days.
This means that you can make several trips totalling 90 days or less in any one calendar year. However, these entries are not cumulative. The ETA is valid for the duration of your stay.
Renewal of the period of residence with an ETA
If your stay in Seychelles exceeds the 90 days authorised by the ETA, or if you wish to make several consecutive entries into the country, you will need to apply to the local authorities for an extension.
How can you extend your stay?
If you need to extend your stay, you must go to the Immigration Office located in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles. You will need to submit a written request explaining the reasons for this extension, as well as various documents to support your application.
These extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed. It is therefore advisable to take this into account when planning your trip.
